Jerry Sandusky is Sentenced to 30-60 years

" If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must Man be of learning from experience," George Bernard Shaw.

The Jerry Sandusky scandal is over in my mind.  The terror of Happy Valley is officially spending his remaining years of life behind bars.  While I could not express the grief and torment the victim have to live with, I hope that this provides some sort of closure for them.  People have said they hope they never hear his name spoke ever again, but that is wrong. For the rest of the world, we must never forget these horrific string of events and continue to always to be vigilante. This problem was further escalated because men of power did not do the right thing, at the right time. They were scared and fearful of opening the can of worms that would ensue.  Mr. Sandusky and those who aided his terror should be the examples for years to come of what NOT to do.  As adults, we should work to be the antithesis of the man who Mr. Sandusky.  You can't change the world until you put your best foot forward. That is my definition of Character: doing the right thing even when it may be against the grain.

Everyday I get on the train, I read and hear the same message "If you see something, say something." This not only goes for terrorism, it goes for abusive actions of one against the other.  Stand up for what is right and fear not the consequences that follow.  Look out for those who cannot help themselves, whether it is a helpless spouse or a child of abuse, at the end of the day it is all the same.

While I cannot speak for Ryan, I am positive he agrees with the statement above.  I am sure he would go to the end of the Earth to ensure his wife and child's safety (Nathan's too) because I know he is a man of great character brought up by people of great character.  I pray for the safety of all those abused (past, present, and future) and will never put a man or institution on a pedestal so high that they are incapable of abusing the helpless.

So let us prove the great George Bernard Shaw wrong and show we are capable of learning from history's experiences.

Happy 1st Birthday Nolan

Happy Birthday to my little buddy Nolan Oliver.  He celebrated Easter twice and a leap year, all before he turned one.
all business, all the time
6:36 AM in NYC our lived were changed for ever, for the better.  It went by extremely fast and although his vocabulary is practically non-existent, he's been walking for over three months, which is pretty impressive.  He's a good little dude with an awesome personality.  He's the man.

We're heading out to the Mystic Aquarium for a day with the little dude.  I feel bad leaving Nathan home all day, but he'll be fine, he's the toughest dachshund I've ever met.

Here's some other cool stuff (or uncool, depending on what your opinion is) that happened on April 16 in the history of the world.

  • 1941 - Bob Feller of the Cleveland Indians threw the only no-hitter on Opening Day in Major League history, beating the Chicago White Sox 1-0
  • Funnyman Jon Cryer turns 47 today.  He's best known for his work on Two and a Half Men and his cameo in Due Date
  • Ian MacKaye, frontman for Minor Threat and Fugazi, turns half century this year
  • Bob Dylan debuted his song "Blowin' in the Wind" in NY in 1962
  • The Rolling Stones debut album was released in 1964, "The Rolling Stones (England's Newest Hitmakers)"
  • Bill Belichick turns 60 today and still rocks a ripped hoodie better than any coach in history
We're be having a great day and I hope you'll do the same.

Birthday (& History) Madness - March 29

March 29

Birthdays

He'd be 145 today but Happy Birthday to 511 game winner Cy Young. Dude was a man's man - he had 829 decisions during his 22-year career.  And every year, the "best" pitcher in each league gets an award named after him.  Pretty cool.

Xena, Warrior Princess is 44 today.  Lucy Lawless, the New Zealand born actress still looks better today than she did as Xena - maybe because she was too busy bulking up and kicking ass.

Australian model and former SI Swimsuit cover girl Elle Macpherson is 48 today.  She's also been on television several times on a few different shows, but no one remembers that.  She's also run through two husbands in the 80's and 90's, but hasn't been married since 2005.

History

1974 - Mariner 10 became the first spacecraft to reach Mercury and remains the only one to ever go to Mercury.  It was an unmanned spacecraft.

1996 - The Cleveland Browns chose a new name after leaving the city for Baltimore - and thus the Baltimore Ravens were born.  Kind of ironic, because on March 29, 1984, the Baltimore Colts moved to Indianapolis.

1971 - A jury in LA recommends the death penalty for Charles Manson and three female followers.

History (Link) Lesson

Wanted to touch on a few things that happened in the world on this day, March 23rd.  Stay with me here, as I have a tendency to scatter from thought to thought.

Way back in 1775, Patrick Henry gave his "Give me liberty, or give me death" speech which helped sway the VA House of Burgesses to pass a resolution to send the Virginia troops to the Revolutionary War.

1998 - "Titanic" won a record-tying 11 Oscars at the 70th Academy Awards.  The movie who's record it tied?  (at the bottom of the post)

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, in 1965, astronaut John Young became the first man to eat a corned-beef sandwich in outer space.  He smuggled the sandwich on board because he was sick of the dehydrated space food.

Will Smith was born today.  No, not the one who's been gettin' jiggy wit' it - the English geologist who introduced the method of estimating, from fossils, the age of geological formations.  (he was born in 1769)

Alydar, a race horse who finished second to Affirmed in all three Triple Crown races back in 1978, was born today 36 years ago.  Alydar can now be found in an Elmer's glue container.  Good run horse.

My head is really beginning to bother me, so I am going to take it easy with a little nap in the back equipment room.

Also, this weather is awful.  I woke up to fine a dusting of snow on my car and rain coming down from the sky.  What the hell is going on around these parts lately?  I am sick of living in the Bronx and I need to get out!  Can anyone help?

(and the movie "Titanic" tied is "Ben-Hur")
